STOP & SHOP is shutting its doors for good.
Its closure will affect about 1,000 employees in the Boston area, including 350 employees at the Westfield Brookline store, and more than 400 in San Francisco.
“The news was announced today, and we want to make it clear that Stop & Shop is deeply saddened to announce the closure of the Bay County store,” said Jennifer Sussman, vice president of operations at Stop & SHop.
“We will continue to offer a variety of local brands at our Westfield stores, and continue to provide our customers with top-quality service, and the customers will continue their enjoyment of Stop &Shop.”
The store will remain open for its regular customers until July 31.
It will close to all non-stop customers in July.
Sussman said the decision was made to close the store “as soon as it was safe to do so.”
The company’s Westfield Boston location, located in the area of South Boston and West Roxbury, will continue its normal business operations and will continue with its regular customer service, she said.
The company will also continue to host free bike rentals for customers.
